[eat] Hearty burgers at Meneer Smakers @ Utrecht, the Netherlands

Meneer Smakers is such a famous burger resto in Utrecht that everyone I know of keeps raving about it. Such a shame I hadn’t had a chance to visit the place until my bf arrived. However, true to its fame, Smakers did not disappoint and both the bf and I immensely enjoyed our hearty burgers there.

[eat] Revisit Chili King @ Itaewon, Seoul

Chili King is such a popular place for burger lovers out there that I hesitated before deciding to blog about them. They are just so well-known. In case you didn’t know, the owner, Kevin Crys, started Chili King as a food cart on the streets of Itaewon and gained a reputation for his wildly delicious chili. The food cart became a tiny restaurant in the back alley of Itaewon (it was super duper small), but after a few years, Chili King was closed for several months before making a gigantic comeback in a much, much bigger resto/pub a few meters away from the old location.

[eat] Eat my way out in Central: Burgers at Shake ‘Em Buns & Jianbing @ Mr.Bing & Bubble tea @ Gong Cha

I don’t usually make the trek to Hong Kong Island, but when I do, it is for food >v< Today, the bf took me to a hip, sassy, burger joint in Central, Shake ‘Em Buns for lunch, followed by jianbing at the new buzz in town Mr.Bing. As I happily discovered a few days ago that Gong Cha, a celebrated bubble tea chain which has the best bubble tea in the world, sells their drinks in Hong Kong at such low prices (in fact, about half the price in Korea), I have been tanking myself up with a huge cup of Gong Cha every day. Of course, today was no exception.

[eat] Pretty but mediocre: burgers at Farmer’s Barn @ Insa-dong, Seoul

My recent burger find somehow made me reflect upon all my burger experiences in Korea. Good memories are many, and bad ones aplenty. The super pretty burgers at Farmer’s Barn, sadly, belong to the second category. My main concern with Farmer’s Barn’s fare was the prices. The burgers themselves were not incredibly bad, but for the prices I expected a lot more. For ~15000 KRW a burger and up, you should at least get something that would fill half of your stomach, right? Too bad I didn’t even have 1/5 of my stomach fulfilled here.

[eat] Cheese burgers at Little Cuba @ Sinchon, Seoul

When one mentions comfort food, I immediately think of burgers. There is something so right about the combination of soft buns, fresh lettuce, cheese, and a juicy beef patty. There is no shortage of good burger joints in Seoul, but it is painful to think about the lack of decent burgers in Sinchon–where I live. That’s why, when a classmate mentioned a place called Little Cuba (리틀쿠바) right here in Sinchon, where she said she had one of her best burgers ever–I immediately put it at the top of my to-try restaurant list.

[eat] Eggs Benedict at T.G. Brunch Cafe & Mushroom Burger at Jacoby’s Burger @ Noksapyeong, Seoul

If my friends ask for a good brunch spot, I usually recommend T.G. Brunch Cafe in Noksapyeong. They have a decent range of options for brunch which is on offer all day. The cafe is small and has a casual, friendly atmosphere, and is located in the quieter neighborhood of Noksapyeong.

[eat] Indulge yourself at Burger B @ Hongdae, Seoul

As I took a look at my food photos, it occurred to me that it’s been exactly one year since I first visited Burger B. From that day until now, Burger B has always been my no.1 place to eat out in Hongdae. Though my heart definitely beats faster when I see Jacoby’s Burger, Burger B proudly holds the second spot of best burgers in Korea for me.
