[travel] A hike to Trio Beach @ Sai Kung, Hong Kong

Sai Kung has to be my favorite town in Hong Kong. It has the sea, the mountain, the food. It has everything. I wrote about Hiking Tai Long Wan in Hong Kong some time ago. It was wonderful and everyone visiting Hong Kong should do that, I believe. However, if you do not have much time and are afraid that 15 km might be too much, a relatively short hike to Trio beach in Sai Kung would be a nice exercise with the rewarding view of a beautiful beach.

From Hang Hau station, catch bus 101 to Sai Kung town. From Sai Kung, walk/take taxi/minibus to the “Lion’s Nature Education Centre” at the intersection of Che Keng Tuk Road and Hiram’s Highway. Follow the Che Keng Tuk Road, walk past the Lions Nature Education Centre. Keep walking and you will see this:

Keep walking until you see a trail. Walk along the trail for about 10 minutes…

(excuse my face)

…Until you see a sign (Ma Nam Wat), follow it until you see a trail leading up the hill. On top of the hill you will be rewarded with this gorgeous view:

Keep walking until you see the sea:

Such beauty:

Rest assured that the beach is freaking clean:

And super chilling:

With ridiculously soft sand:

and crystal waters:

A real hidden gem. The beach is small so I can imagine that it will be crowded in the summer. I hiked there in January so there was nobody but me and my friend and 2 cleaners. Facilities available are changing rooms, showers, toilets, a refreshment kiosk, and public BBQ area. Perhaps I should note: like many beaches in Hong Kong, don’t bring your dogs there.
